Letters (1862-63) from Oliver W. Peabody to his wife Mary Lothrop Peabody in Boston, written during the Civil War. The letters describe his trip to the midwest in search of information on the whereabouts of his brother, Everett Peabody, who died in the Battle of Pittsburg Landing (Shiloh) in 1862 as commander of Peabody's Brigade. Also described are his months of service as an officer in the Mass. 45th Infantry, primarily camp life and military routine, at Camp Amory in Newbern, N.C. Also, letters of condolence (1896-Jan. 1897) to Mary L. Peabody upon the death of her husband in October of 1896.
